Grateful Dead Covers Project 2013 – Carrying on the Band’s Legacy Through Song
The folks over at Dead.net have been taking video submissions for the 2013 Dead Covers Project and showcasing a video a day, on their homepage for the month of February. The rules are simple. Just submit a video of a song written or recorded by the Grateful Dead, tag it “Dead Covers Project” and upload it to YouTube. It’s made available on the bands Official YouTube Channel. There are only a few more days to submit. It ‘s a bit loose, like the band itself, with the ones with the most ‘likes’ moving up the leaderboard, and the top videos & artists to be featured later in the Spring. Last year, among the top five was Nicki Bluhm’s submission of “Deal.” It was one of her first “Van Sessions,” that she is so infamous for now.
There are some pretty classic interpretations and some that stretch the boundaries. Acoustic to electric. Elders to youth. Working musicians to beginning players. Fun viewing and a great way to carry on the legacy of the band and their songs. Here’s one that started out the month of February with a “Ripple” by Alice DiMicele and Mikey Stevens.
