Self-indulgent alternative to Alternative Country
Marvin Etzioni was the founder and driving force behind Alt-rock pioneers Lone Justice way back when; and on hearing the opening track which features the delectable Maria McKee from said ensemble, I thought that we were on to a winner; but You Possess Meis a false dawn.
The next 21 tracks spread across 2 albums go onto feature some real heavyweights in the Alt and Roots scene like Lucinda Williams, Buddy Miller, John Doe, Steve Earle and even the Folk legend Richard Thompson among a myriad of others but it’s all downhill from track two.
No matter how many famous names Etzioni shoehorns onto his songs they are still not very good.
There is no cohesion to the album, with songs that appear to be demos set alongside fully blown overproduced anthems leaving the/this listener dazed and confused.
