A Conversation with Noel Paul Stookey
If anyone has taken the title of Dylan’s classic song, “Forever Young” to heart, it’s Noel Paul Stookey. For the last 50 years he has been best known as Paul of the popular folk trio, Peter, Paul & Mary. In a recent phone conversation, his enthusiasm and vision suggest the energy of a man half his age. Our conversation ran from the nature of creativity to the constant challenge that music brings to the artist and the audience. Soon, as we talked, it became clear that we were sharing the same kind of space and discussion once experienced in Greenwich Village in the early 60’s. He even mentioned, at one point in the conversation, how natural it would seem to be passing a joint between us. That is, if we were not a continent apart.
