Every empire eventually reaches the point at which it has no choice but to collapse. How far we are from that collapse is unclear, yet we are certainly in the mid to late stages of decline. Modern society reads like the ever-troubling chapters of a mad novel. Industry and capitalism introduce a blight to the world in which we live, and we do little to cure it. Nature invariably reaches the limit where it employs disaster to create anew, yet this time around it seems the earth’s greatest enemy, humanity, may be the one bringing about destruction, with less and less hope of renewal. What will be created, however, what is in the process of being created, is a world of artificiality and greed where profiteers and politicians care about the best interests of neither humankind nor nature. More than anything, though, these are songs meant purely for expression, a musical outlet, not shoving views and stances down the listener’s throat, and saying, “Here is the information and our thoughts and feelings on the subject, but make up your own mind about it.”
