Bobgoblin – Love Lost For Blood Lust
Yeah you are probably wondering what is a Bobgoblin, well it does sound like something from a fantasy book, but it is actually a kick ass rock band. Yeah you heard that, Bobgoblin is name of a rock band that brings that new wave rock attitude to the table. A three man squad Bobgoblin is a mix of post punk, rock and new wave styles. Carrying that anarchy stance the band has an aggressively melodic sound to them.
Coming as a product of two inspired people who met in a University, the Bobgoblin began spreading its wings in the town of Denton in the southern state of Texas. Created soon after the meeting of the lead vocalist/keyboardist Hop Litzwire and drummer Rob Avsharian, the Bobgoblin started to take shape as a band and an idea. And the shape was formed with the joining of bassist Tony Janotta in the year of 1994. Starting with some strong performances the band captivated the audiences with their energy on stage and their rockstar attitude. Releasing their first independent album the band created a snowball that kept rolling till this day. And that day being the present, the newest release of the band, the album “Love Lost for Blood Lost” has hit the daylight. Being the newest edition to their already vast discography this album represents the current state of band’s mind perfectly. Still rocking that anti-establishment style with some good messages the Bobgoblin keeps delivering some good content.
Starting with the song “Feel no Pain” the album directly brings out that rebellious teenager inside you. Of course if you are a teenager already, then it probably just boost that already rebellious mind of yours. The first song actually really reminds me of “The Offspring” which is obviously a good thing. The chorus explains it all, no pain for stuff that doesn’t matter, so yeah, eat that. The second song is actually very interesting, even with the simple rime the lyrics have a good message. The name “Danger” is in my mind actually a metaphor for all the various influences a young mind can endure without realizing. There is danger left and right, from all kinds of information. But the message is actually to get free of those influences and “get out in the world”, meaning using your head a little more and thinking for yourself. Finishing the album with the song “I know a Place” the album ends with a positive note. Speaking of a perfect place for a misunderstood teenager, the place where you feel comfortable, where you feel accepted the song has a positive vibe. Telling you that the place is your own mind, the message is that you must accept and love yourself just the way you are.
Recorded by the usual members of the band with the exemption of Barry Poynter who played the guitars and also helped in the production the album has some good guitar riffs and melodies. The arrangements of the songs and harmonies are pretty simple but effective. The drums and the bass are thick and heavy with some fine production. So overall it is a pretty cool album.
