Katy Moffatt – Up Close And Personal
Recorded at a house concert in New Mexico in 2002, this disc finds Katy Moffatt in her natural element, performing solo with just her acoustic guitar as accompaniment. Moffatt is at home singing folk, country or blues with a voice thats grown richer with age. She can be soothing on This Heart Stops For Railway Crosses, her voice trailing off at the end like a train receding into the distance, or strident on Sojourner Truth (Aint I A Woman), railing against the second-class treatment of women. As an interpreter, she delivers graceful covers of Chris Smithers Love Me Like A Man and Cindy Walker & Eddy Arnolds You Dont Know Me. Her version of Jimmie Rodgers Waitin For A Train captures the loneliness of the original and gives her a chance to show off her yodeling ability.
