Kris Delmhorst – Strange Conversation
On her fourth studio album, Kris Delmhorst takes a journey through the past for inspiration, going back as far as the 13th century. The twelve songs are based on or inspired by the work of classic poets, including Robert Browning, e.e. cummings and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Galuppi Baldessare, based on Brownings A Toccata Of Galuppis, has a jazz/swing feel, thanks to a three-man horn section. Invisible Choir, inspired by a George Eliot contemplation of immortality, has a Dixieland vibe. Light Of The Light captures the restless spirit of Walt Whitmans Passage To India, turning it into a pop song. Everything Is Music, based on the writings of Jalaluddin Rumi from the 1250s, is a celebration of song that ends the album on an upbeat note.
