Lynn Miles music could teach you a bunch of stuff about life and love that you need to know or at least itll articulate, in potent language and eloquent melody, what youve already figured out but havent quite formulated yourself. Stuff like how fragile hearts are; how long nights can be; how, over time, loneliness grinds even the toughest down. As on her last release, 2003s Unravel, the Ottawa singer-songwriter blends folk and pop and country in singular, accessible fashion. While Miles artistic vision leans to the forlorn, the saddest moments also glow with compassion for her own and others troubles. This time around, she adds a swipe at George W. Bush in the tune Rainmaker, although her pillorying of the mans duplicity might apply to any person whose life pivots on self-regard.
