Red Stick Ramblers – Right Key, Wrong Keyhole
Louisianas Red Stick Ramblers encompass elements of western swing, Cajun music and traditional jazz, among other genres, with plenty of dance rhythms. A lively version of Bob Wills Thats What I Like About The South kicks off the album, the spirited fiddle work of Linzay Young and Kevin Wimmer giving the song a lift. The mood switches from clamorous to amorous on the seductive Sweet And Slow, penned by Harry Warren. Zydeco king Clifton Cheniers Its Hard To Love Someone gets a bluesy treatment, highlighted by Chad Justus lead guitar. Grand Texas, one of two selections performed in French, is a carefree Cajun two-step that also provided the melody for Hank Williams Jambalaya. The bands originals fit in smoothly among the covers. Youngs La Valse De Chaqui is a short and sweet Cajun waltz, sung in French; Justus Closing Time Blues is a bittersweet country ballad underscored by Terry Huvalls pedal steel.
