Robert Nash releases new Album
An inspirational easy-listening album that opens the door to recorded dialogue of living, loving and learning through life’s travels. Robert Nash brings his own brand of a story-telling methodology of confessional stories, unabashedly and unapologetic in their simplest form. Singer/songwriter Robert Nash has drawn his inspiration from his own heartland- Sydney, Australia, and with his full-length independent album, The Ghost of Your Old Love. Nash’s words are a soulful folk love affair reminiscent of the musical time days when Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Tom Waits, would bring their voice from their heart to recorded tracks. Whether Nash’s musical wisdom comes from the roots of his homeland, Australia, or his brief time spent in London during 2007 for two years, he has struck the match and ignited the nights with his descriptive truths.
From the very opening track, “Arms Around the Moon” Nash connects with his audience much in the same vein as Jack Kerouac identified with life in his book, On the Road. Nash’s writing is simple, yet it resonates in a deeper, more spiritual way of life, a period of time traveled with a guitar case and a pen in hand. A blend of musical layers, which at times seem complicated as in the title track: “The Ghost of Your Old Love” scintillating structure lends a foundation that carries the vocals of Robert Nash’s persona along.
Upon Nash’s return to Sydney, he decided it was time to take full advantage of what it means to be an independent musician. As he worked towards creating his own home recording studio and collectively reaching out around the world to bring in the necessary elements- the ‘Nash complexity’ took structure. The song “Fairground” brings in the horns that were recorded in London, and is a beautiful track that breathes a supportive recall to an early Pixie’s sound. A dream sequence number that resonates in the strings which were recorded in St. Petersburg, on the song, “I’m Not Letting Go.” Nash speaks from the heart as an acoustic strum sports his limited, but evocative vocal range in, ”Just Passing Through.” A visual of an autumn meeting in Central Park can be imagined when we rendezvous where “Leaves Are Falling.” One cannot help but to fall in love with this album Nash has created. He has touched upon each universal theme all of us have experienced. The drum tracks found on the tune, “Copenhagen” were recorded in Los Angeles. Truly, The Ghost of Your Old Love is complete international work of art. Nash then once again shows his strongest narration lies within the songs that focus on his words as in, “Fragments of the Morning.” The lyrics alone sent the dappling shine of broken lights at dawn across a lover’s face. Beautiful and gentle strings, along with soft-spoken words caress the song, “Laura” a gentle lullaby of love and light. Coming in with a quicker upbeat tempo Nash’s new album settles in as it leads towards its almost final strum with, “London Winter Cold” a track sure to bring the rainy fog of lonely within the sounds of faraway horns. The completion of Nash’s independent debut album finally comes with the records titled track- “The Ghost of Your Old Love” as the content has been carefully and deliberately created the song spins a tale told in a stretch of time.
The Ghost of Your Old Love is a work that is a gentle bouquet of living in a beautiful sound, and a truthful story for the passions of life. Nash has brought all his elements together on his album, his way and interweaving his passions of words, bass, keys, guitar, percussion, and mandolin. A brilliant alluring work that is the epitome of songwriting about our own existence.
