Ryan Holladay – New Kid in Town
As a multi-instrumentalist prodigy, Ryan Holladay has followed closely in the footsteps of Ricky Skaggs, his mentor and producer. Holladay first came to national attention when he became the youngest artist ever to perform on the Grand Ole Opry at the age of five; now in his early teens, he is releasing his first album for Skaggs label.
Holladays dexterity and control on banjo, mandolin and guitar reveal an artist wise and skilled beyond his years, in contrast to the boyish quality of his vocal delivery. Backed by a solid cast, Holladay tackles a broad range of styles. His arrangement of the traditional instrumental Boston Boy establishes his bluegrass roots right from the start, while his cover of the Eagles New Kid In Town brings the album to a calm conclusion. Another highlight is an a cappella reading of Doyle Lawsons There Is A God, on which he is joined by members of his family for a stunning gospel quartet.
