Split Lip Rayfield – Should Have Seen It Coming
A quartet from Wichita, Kansas, Split Lip Rayfield plays with energy, passion and musical chops. Their bluegrass-based music often features four-part harmonies; then theres the sometimes furious punk-metal pace of the groups songs, with band member Jeff Eaton playing an upright bass nicknamed the Stitch-giver made from a gas tank and a single string of Weedwacker line.
Should Have Seen It Coming, the bands fourth album for Bloodshot, is sometimes irreverent, sometimes sweet, and almost always a blast. The bands flexes its picking skills on Promise Not To Tell and the album-opening Hundred Dollar Bill. A Little More Cocaine Please is sure to make the Super-suckers jealous, and Redneck Tailgate Dream is goofy fun. The slacker love tale Down South Sally and Honestly are instantly infectious; Out Of Time and Dont Believe That Youre Someone are also highlights.
