Terri Hendrix – The Spiritual Kind
Some may find Texan Terri Hendrix a little perky for their taste, but its hard not to feel well-disposed to someone who, in her liner notes regarding her cover of Pastures Of Plenty, writes I wish it was mandatory that before you could hold public office you had to learn to play guitar and learn a Woody Guthrie song. In fact, generosity and optimism define this folk-pop-blues album, Hendrixs tenth. Acre of Land, one of several originals, finds her as hopeful in the face of adversity as the tough little vegetable seeds she sows, while Bottom Of A Hill extols the sunny virtues of a rural life where air conditioning means opening the windows. Elsewhere, Hendrix tackles issues such as racism, but her choice for the opening track, Lifes A Song:, reveals that a smile is her natural ally.
