Willodean Entice with “Life in Limbo”
Life and Limbo from Willodean is out today every single track on this EP features a string quartet & piano and the bands long standing relationships are deeply apparent when you listen.
The unique is due to the diverse musical backgrounds of its three members: the southern roots of front man Abbie Huxley, the smart, McCartney-esque songwriting of Randy Wooten, and the indie rock edge of producer/bass player Eric Holden. Wooten is fertile composer, and due to the band’s remarkably prolific output, Willodean is releasing a string of four EPs in 2017. Life & Limbo is the third and newest in this series of releases and This year alone their label has 2 additional releases that Randy’s written -Gin Pennies & Chris Hawley.
Wooten and Eric Holden met in 2001, made a few records, toured a lot and ended up forming Cheap Lullaby Records with Joe Ross. Cheap Lullaby ended up signing over 17 bands including Joan As Police Woman, The Bellrays, and David Mead. They put out over 30 records and with all that, their own bandgot put on hold. A few years ago they reformed with Huxley and together carved out a sound that consists of Randy’s songs, Abbie’s voice and Eric’s production
We already wrote about the lead single “Everyone” a few days back and its heart wrenching vibes are still fresh in our minds (scroll back to read).
“The Drink That Kills Me” is harrowing is an ode to what happens if you drink too much, it manages to be depressing and clever all at once.
We love “One Foot In Front Of The Other,” which would be just as comfortable in a Muppet Movie (and we say this as one of the highest of compliments we can bestow), as it would be an outtake on a Beatles album, as it is reminiscent of “All You Need Is Love.”
“Old Friends” is part Randy Newman, part Tony Bennett and part Broadway stunner, you will swear you’ve heard it somewhere before but you have not… and this is the sheer genius of Randy Wooten’s writing.
