Entering their second decade as an ensemble, Chatham County Line bring a deep reverence for traditional American roots music and timeless bluegrass instrumentation to insightful, poetic original songs that are powerfully contemporary yet rich with the complex resonance of their southern heritage. “At the end of the day,” explains CCL’s Dave Wilson, “you want to write songs that have a reason for existing. For Tightrope, there was a lot of scrutinizing. We wanted every song to make the future Greatest Hits.”

What happens when you get three talented singer-songwriters in one room together? You guessed it–great songs, great harmonies, and a record that is hard to put down. This is the second collaboration for Tim Easton, Leeroy Stagger and Evan Phillips, and the album is a progression from their debut’s quieter folk sound. The guys now bring along drums, electric bass and guitars, organ, and piano which results in a more vibrant and warm sound. Each track here has its own personality, but it works. The trio did an excellent job of making seamless transitions and a cohesive album while still shining individually when the light was on them vocally, but it never finds them overshadowing another member.
