Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Ben Harper and his mother Ellen have collaborated to create an absorbing, deeply personal collection of original songs. Childhood Home features ten songs – six written by Ben and four written by Ellen – that explore the intricacies of family life with honesty and generous intimacy.

Nikki Lane turns the vulnerable singer-songwriter stereotype on its ear, crafting songs that crucify ex-boyfriends and have no problem with one-night stands, as long as she can bolt town right after. Her cooing-yet-brutal vocals are a perfect fit with an aching, mournful guitar. Produced by Dan Auerbach (the Black Keys), Lane say “My songs always paint a pretty clear picture of what’s been going on in my life, so this is one moody record … There’s lots of talk of misbehaving and moving on.”
WILLIE WATSON
Folk Singer, Vol. 1 (Acony)
This is the debut solo album from Willie Watson (Old Crow Medicine Show). Produced by David Rawlings, the album features ten songs, from folk standards to obscure gems. A true solo album in every sense, hearing Watson’s skillful and subtle banjo and guitar accompaniments, and vocals, unadorned for the first time is a revelation.
