Anderson East, Brent Cobb, and Dave Cobb Pay Tribute to Don Williams
Some of Americana’s best and brightest came together recently to honor the late Don Williams. Anderson East, Brent Cobb, and Dave Cobb all joined forces at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A to offer up a cover of Williams’ “Come Early Morning,” a cut off Williams’ 1973 debut album Volume One. The video is part of Ram Trucks’ “Long Live the Storytellers” series.
“We didn’t really know what we wanted to do, but it just so happened a song came across and Don had just passed away,” Brent Cobb says in the clip. “I think if anybody is a true storyteller, I mean, that joker can tell a story, you know.”
“And I think he always just makes you feel happy,” East adds.
“You just wanna love somebody,” Cobb says with a laugh.
Don Williams passed away on September 8 of this year following complications from emphysema. He was 78. His last studio album was 2014’s Reflections.
East has a new album, Encore, due out January 12, while Brent Cobb is still supporting his acclaimed 2016 release Shine On Rainy Day. Dave Cobb, known for producing major roots albums like Jason Isbell’s Southeastern and Chris Stapleton’s Traveller, has several production projects in the works, including East’s forthcoming Encore and new music from artists including Old Crow Medicine Show and Ashley Monroe. RCA Studio A is a special place to the latter Cobb, as he took over as producer in residence in 2016.
