I was a regular contributor to No Depression magazine during the early to mid-2000s and am the author of The Words and Music of Van Morrison (Praeger, 2009), Cormac McCarthy: A Literary Companion (McFarland, 2010), and The Melville-Hawthorne Connection: A Study of the Literary Friendship (McFarland, 2014). I also contributed two chapters to The Album: A Guide to Pop Music's Most Provocative, Influential, and Important Creations (ABC-CLIO, 2012) and have been a contributing writer to the All Music Guide to Rock: The Definitive Guide to Rock, Pop, and Soul (Backbeat Books, 2002), the All Music Guide to the Blues: The Definitive Guide to the Blues (Backbeat Books, 2003), and the All Music Guide to Country: The Definitive Guide to Country Music (Backbeat Books, 2003). In addition, I have been a contributor to Pop Culture Press and Trouserpress.com. From 2001 to 2011, I was a writer, reviewer, and music columnist for Metroland, the alternative newsweekly of New York State’s Capital Region, and I earned a New York Press Association Award for feature writing in 2006. I am currently an associate professor of journalism and communication at the State University of New York at Cobleskill and director of the communication degree programs. I have also taught a regular class on rock and roll history at Excelsior College in Albany, New York, since 2010.
