The number thirteen is said to be unlucky, but not for Session Americana – tonight’s show was the thirteenth consecutive Tuesday at the Lizard Lounge for this Boston based musical collective. It was apparent from the first song that many […]
I've been listening to live music for over forty years and started to write reviews of live shows in 2007.
I write for 'Maverick' magazine in the UK, blog on 'No Depression' and my reviews also appear on the 'Whisperers' page on Bob Harris' (BBC Radio DJ) website.
My interests/likes are predominantly folk, Americana and roots music. Singer/songwriters feature heavily in my album collection.
I've supported a number of musicians via fan funding projects and will continue to do so.
I love receiving feedback on my writing, whether it's agreement or disagreement and I get a real kick when I receive messages telling me that a CD has been purchased or tickets to a gig have been bought on the strength of something I have written.

“Dear Sam, dear Sam, I thought of you today / you were riding a train and it was safe,” sang Carrie Elkin as she conveyed, so elegantly, her feelings for Sam Baker. Baker is, and yet isn’t, defined by the […]
“No one remembers your name / just for working hard,” sings Rod Picott in his gritty, husky vocal as he tells the story of how manufacturing industries packed up factories in the US and moved jobs to low-wage economies such as […]
So, you’re a blues aficionado, which means you’re a fan of Big Bill Broonzy’s “Key to the Highway”. Or maybe you prefer folk, in which case you’ll love Woody Guthrie’s “Oklahoma Hills” and Bob Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet”. Or possibly you’re a […]
Kings Place contains the first new public concert hall to be built in central London since the completion of the Barbican in the early 1980s. It opened in 2008 and houses two halls specifically designed for live music performances. The […]
A hot and steamy London night saw the Jayhawks’ 1997 touring band play at this iconic venue in support of the recently released and remastered versions of the Sound of Lies (1997), Smile (2000) and Rainy Day Music (2003). The […]
“I’m a young man today, that’s got nothing left to say about tomorrow…” sang John Fullbright as he opened with “Daydreamer” at Islington’s Assembly Hall. Well, I for one, beg to differ…this young Oklahoman has plenty to say about tomorrow, […]
