A wet, windy night during the winter storms sweeping the country made me wonder how many people would turn out on such an evening for Aoife O’Donovan’s first ever Brighton show. I needn’t have worried. Many, like me, made the […]
I've been listening to live music for over forty years and started to write reviews of live shows in 2007.
I write for 'Maverick' magazine in the UK, blog on 'No Depression' and my reviews also appear on the 'Whisperers' page on Bob Harris' (BBC Radio DJ) website.
My interests/likes are predominantly folk, Americana and roots music. Singer/songwriters feature heavily in my album collection.
I've supported a number of musicians via fan funding projects and will continue to do so.
I love receiving feedback on my writing, whether it's agreement or disagreement and I get a real kick when I receive messages telling me that a CD has been purchased or tickets to a gig have been bought on the strength of something I have written.

It was serendipity…there was I just getting ready to go to work but sneaking in time to check out what was happening in the land of Facebook and could hardly believe my eyes when I saw a post by the […]
Jimmy LaFave and Night Tribe, The 100 Club (London, UK September 19th 2013) “The good news is we received some requests, the bad news is that we will be here for three more days” said Jimmy LaFave to his band, […]
When the dates for Sam Baker’s UK tour were published I was disappointed to see that the furthest south he would be playing was in London. Living near Brighton, I can get up to London easily enough but like, if […]
Here’s a business plan…team up with another singer/songwriter, release your first two albums as free downloads, tour extensively as headliners and as openers for more well known bands, see a Grammy award winner tweet favourably about you, release your third […]
The Milk Carton Kids are a folk duo from Eagle Rock, California who formed in 2011 when Joey Ryan heard Kenneth Pattengale singing Memoirs of an Owned Dog (the lyrics are from the perspective of a dead dog) and was […]
