Michaela Anne has one of those arrestingly beautiful voices that stop you in your tracks. On her new record, Desert Dove, Anne’s vocals evoke the swooning clarity of Mindy Smith or Courtney Marie Andrews (whom she toured with last year). […]
Maeri Ferguson has music in her blood. She grew up twenty minutes from Fort Adams, attending her first Newport Folk Fest before she could even walk, and running through the tents of the Rhythm and Roots Fest at Ninigret in her cowboy boots once she could. Most people call her Mae, thanks to her dad's love of the Kershaw Brothers song "Hey Mae." From the time she was 12, her parents have been hosting monthly house concerts that turn her living room into Rhode Island's premiere destination for Americana, roots music and rock n' roll, and exposing her to some of the greatest singer-songwriters in the music industry. She's been listening to her dad's radio show, the Boudin Barndance, since before she can remember, and still tunes in on Thursday nights from the apartment in Los Angeles where she now lives. She works in public relations, and has been writing about music and reviewing live shows for more than five years, currently serving as a staff writer for No Depression and Glide Magazine. You can find her on Instagram and Twitter @maeriferguson.

It is no exaggeration to say that Ideal Man feels like Andrew Combs’ most intentional album yet. An artist who seems never to do anything without earnest, fully realized intention, Combs commits hard to each creative evolution he’s experienced since […]
Jeremy Ivey is more than the sideman, more than a guitarist with his wife Margo Price’s band. A prolific songwriter in his own right, he is finally sharing his art with The Dream and the Dreamer, his first official solo […]
Paul Cauthen had to learn some pretty brutal lessons in the making of his latest record Room 41, but damn if it didn’t result in what sounds like a helluva time. Cauthen has always flirted with a groovy sound, but […]
There’s a common thinking that when an artist finds happiness, they cease to create good, meaningful work. It’s a silly misconception to believe that art can only come from pain, and if you needed proof of that, Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster’s […]
The longing, dreamy howl of Black Belt Eagle Scout’s Katherine Paul is one that will haunt you long after you’ve heard it. On her sophomore album, At the Party with My Brown Friends, Paul’s voice hits like a gentle wave […]
Esther Rose knows exactly who she is. And with just one listen of her sophomore album, You Made It This Far, you’ll know, too. From the first few strums on the acoustic guitar she only just picked up a few […]
He may not have the mythologized baggage surrounding him the way Jason Isbell did when he released his solo record Southeastern back in 2013, but Jason Hawk Harris doesn’t need it. He’s proof that a new voice can still turn […]
July can be a sleeper month for new music, but you will regret it if you sleep on Ian Ferguson’s debut record, State of Gold. A greasy, soulful, psychedelic romp of an album, State of Gold is equal parts groovy […]
If there’s one party you’ll want an invite to this summer, it’s Chuck Cleaver’s. Known for Wussy and Ass Ponys, Cleaver is bringing us his first official solo effort, Send Aid, and it feels tailor-made for sweaty jumping around and […]
