The many lives of Joe Pernice have included frontman of multiple bands and solo projects, novelist, baseball coach, and TV writer. So much life lived can lead a man to come face to face with his own mortality, something Pernice […]
Maeri Ferguson has music in her blood. She grew up twenty minutes from Fort Adams, attending her first Newport Folk Fest before she could even walk, and running through the tents of the Rhythm and Roots Fest at Ninigret in her cowboy boots once she could. Most people call her Mae, thanks to her dad's love of the Kershaw Brothers song "Hey Mae." From the time she was 12, her parents have been hosting monthly house concerts that turn her living room into Rhode Island's premiere destination for Americana, roots music and rock n' roll, and exposing her to some of the greatest singer-songwriters in the music industry. She's been listening to her dad's radio show, the Boudin Barndance, since before she can remember, and still tunes in on Thursday nights from the apartment in Los Angeles where she now lives. She works in public relations, and has been writing about music and reviewing live shows for more than five years, currently serving as a staff writer for No Depression and Glide Magazine. You can find her on Instagram and Twitter @maeriferguson.

Sam Evian’s latest record, Plunge, sounds exactly like how it was made, over bucolic winter days at his upstate New York studio, surrounded by musician friends, taking daily plunges in a cold creek in the snow, and letting the songs […]
In Corb Lund’s world, the card tables are hot, the stakes are high, the boots are dirty, and the drinks are stiff. Listening to El Viejo, the Canadian country singer stalwart’s latest, is like cracking open a dusty, leather-bound book […]
Lola Kirke has long been dipping a toe in country music, but beyond what its title, Country Curious, suggests, her new EP is a cannonball into the deep end. Kirke is more than just curious, she is enthusiastically wrapping her […]

Processing a relationship and all its messy complications through songwriting is a daunting enough feat, but exploring your identity at the same time could be enough to do some artists in. Katy Kirby, though, is sturdy and steady on Blue […]
