Why don’t bands write political songs anymore? They do. And for the second time in two years, Benyaro has released a strong song with activism at its core. It’s called “Get Out and Vote”, and it has one purpose according to Benyaro frontman, “to motivate and energize folks to get out and vote in this midterm election, and every election.”
Benyaro isn’t only writing songs, though; they just completed a coast to coast “Get Out the Vote” tour working with Headcount to register voters at shows across the US, talking to audiences about the importance of voting along the way.
On this hooky song, Benyaro delivers funk and soul on nasty sounding real instruments. “G et Out and Vote” makes you believe authenticity still exists, in a time when we are bombarded with fake … well …. everything. The recording features Chaley Rose, from ABC’s Nashville, who provides the perfect back up vocals with a call and response that hearkens back to a gospel choir. Listening to the song, one feels a sense of community building together in a joyful reverential celebration of our great privilege to vote. If you find yourself wondering if casting a vote is worth it, let this song energize you and your people, dancing to the polls to actively participate in this democracy that is in need of some support.
