Garth Hudson
Garth Hudson, the last surviving original member of The Band, the quirky folk/rock band known for hits like “The Weight,” “Up on Cripple Creek,” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” died this week on Jan. 21. Beloved for his stage presence and musical acumen, Hudson was described as a “multi-instrumentalist,” although that term doesn’t fully encompass his musical and emotional versatility.
L.A. Fire Relief
Tickets are on sale for the L.A. Gives Back: Fire Relief concert, Jan. 29 at the Bellwether. And Miranda Lambert’s Muttnation Foundation is auctioning two Gibson R9 1959 Les Paul Reissue guitars in partnership with Norman’s Rare Guitars through Jan. 25; 100% of funds raised go to Los Angeles animal shelters. And this Google Doc is still a great resource for direct ways to help the music community.
