    Recorded in Buddy’s Greenwich Village apartment shortly before his death, these intimate recordings were subsequently tarted up with backing music and released officially. But the original naked recordings have been rumored for an official release many times, and have been, perhaps inevitably, widely bootlegged. Both in spite of and because of their casualness, they are probably my favorite of Holly’s recordings. The bare bones version of “Peggy Sue Got Married” is simply one of my favorite recordings, period.
