Canada Calling: Randal Arsenault releases new video “Rock & Roll To My Grave”
Alberta-based singer/songwriter Randal Arsenault has released his latest single,“Rock & Roll To My Grave,” the title track and first taste from his upcoming solo EP. The song marks a bold shift to roots rock for Arsenault after establishing himself with Afro-funk outfit Dr. Zoo.
The shift in approach occurred when Arsenault bought a vintage acoustic guitar that immediately reminded him of the classic country and rock and roll songs that inspired some of his pre-Dr. Zoo writing. Those humble beginnings eventually spawned the forthcoming EP, laid down with co-producer Murray Pulver (The Bros. Landreth, Crash Test Dummies) at OCL Studios near Calgary. With Pulver also chipping in on guitar, Arsenault kept the sound lean and tight, courtesy of the rhythm section consisting of keyboardist Brendan Waters, drummer Darryl Swart, and bassist Justin Kudding—on loan from country superstar Brett Kissel’s band. It all adds up to a lively, radio-friendly sound sure to reach a lot of new ears.
