Canada Calling: SONG PREMIERE Kristi Lane Sinclair – “Fire In Santa Fe”
On her new five-song EP, The Ability To Judge Distance, released March 16 on Coax Records, Kristi Lane Sinclair gets even closer to the bone than on previous releases in exploring themes of love and anger. Recorded with a four-piece band, with violin featured as prominently as electric guitars, Sinclair produced the sessions herself, her intention being to capture all of the raw energy of her live performances.
Raised in the wilds of British Columbia, Sinclair released her first self-produced independent album, I Love You, in 2010, followed in 2013 by The Sea Alone. In 2015, she released her third collection, Dark Matter, which earned Best Rock Album honours at the 2017 Indigenous Music Awards. The making of the album was also documented in a six-part series called Face The Music, which aired on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN).
The hard-driving “Fire In Santa Fe” was jointly inspired by the fear and rage generated by the 2016 U.S. presidential election and the Standing Rock pipeline protest. The Ability To Judge Distance can be pre-ordered from Coax Records.
