CD review: Phil “Swill” Odgers – The Godforsaken Voyage
I love roots music, and much of that love is due to the fact that several years ago I stumbled across the brilliant folk-punk band The Men They Couldn’t Hang. So, it was with great excitement and anticipation that I ordered Phil “Swill” Odgers’ solo album The Godforsaken Voyage. The album did not and continues to not disappoint. The Godforsaken Voyage is one of the rare albums that I listen to on an almost daily basis, and is most definitely at the forefront of the competition for my favorite album of the year.
Although Odgers’ cover of Kris Kristofferson’s “Sunday Morning, Coming Down” is great, my favorite song on the album is “Dusty Fields” written by fellow TMTCH bandmate, Paul Simmonds. That being said, this isn’t one of those albums that tracks are skipped in order to listen to the highlights; the entire album is a highlight.
