Celebrating the March on Blair Mountain people supporting West Virginia

Adela & Jude owe a huge debt to the music of West Virginia, and the good people and mountains of West Virginia are under attack.  Massey, and other coal companies are routinely destroying the culture, history and people – all in the name of profits. This abuse has to stop.   Would you allow your children to be mistreated generation after generation?   As the great, late Hazel Dickens put it,”you took my husband, now – you want my child”..

So, Adela & Jude are a touring Americana duo, and we draw heavily on the traditions and music of them thar hills.  We feel it’s critical to preserve the story of Blair Mountain – the largest uprising in American since the Civil War.  Miners rose up against the mine owners, and eventually the United States Army.  A million bullets, hundreds of dead miners. Tragedy.   Still, it resonates and people everywhere support the rights of hardworking  Americans.   

Now, Blair Mountain, a historic site is under attack, coal mining companies are using  “mountaintop removal mining” – simply put – they scrape away the top of a mountain, poluting the rivers, destroying the environment and leaving nothing behind.  If you are an Americana music fan, so much of the music you listen to has it’s roots in West Virginia – please show these good people you support them, sign the petition, if you can give, please do – but all in all let them know – you care.
