Checking In: Brooklyn NY’s Indie Folk Rockers Jones Street Station Release Fantastic New Single
From time to time a band you’ve never seen live (and that most have never heard of yet) come out with a song so brilliant and so perfect for the moment you can’t help but share it with others. Brooklyn NY indie folk rockers Jones Street Station are just that band with just that song.
I’ve been familiar with the band’s heartland folk rock style for a little over a year now. The band’s music I’ve heard has always been solid but too similar to the better known Avett Brothers to fully stand on their own for my taste. But on the strength of solid songs and excellent studio recordings I’ve kept tabs on the young band and have found myself checking in ever so often to see if they might have released anything new. Thankfully my persistence seems to have finally paid off with the discovery of a brand new single entitled “The Understanding” that catapults the band into their own limelight and has my full and rapt attention.
“The Understanding” represents to me the very best of what americana music can be: soaring vocal harmonies, poetic lyrics, shuffling drums, lilting piano, and even trumpet – I love it. Sonically speaking there is still a strong connection with The Avett Brothers trademark sound but Brooklyn’s Jones Street Station are finally starting to differentiate themselves with their own style. I think you’ll agree this is a really great new song:
