Chevelle – This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In)
Chevelles second major label release, This Type of Thinking is pretty much a carryover from their previous release Wonder What’s Next as far as content, style and emotion. They’re still angry about the state of things around them, they still feel the sting of loss, and they want it to get better. But this album is better; you can hear the growth in the songwriting and music, it’s by far a better album than Wonder What’s Next.
Vitamin R was the first single from the album, it could be about the dependency our culture has on prescription medication, the fact that we will take anything to feel better and that we will give our children almost anything to get them under control is a prevalent theme throughout the track, and it’s possibly one of the BEST tracks ever released by Chevelle. I would also recommend Bend The Bracket it’s a slow soulful song, full of sorrow and apathy.
The rest of the album doesn’t really live up the level Vitamin R set but it is still a great album and worth listening to and buying, especially if you consider yourself a rock fan, they don’t get much more rock and roll than Chevelle these days.
