Comedown is the ambitious new record from Jason Achilles Mezilis. Hailing from the West Coast, Mezilis offers up a brilliant record that is filled with head-on guitar tones at every corner.
Jason Achilles Mezilis is a name you have most likely heard before. When he’s not working on his solo endeavors, Mezilis spends time in the band OWL with Chris Wyse (of Ace Frehley’s band), and records an array of artists such as Dizzy Reed (of Guns n’ Roses) at his studio, Organic Audio Recorders.
The first single, “Panhandle,” brings the record to life, already giving the listeners a glimpse of what their ears are about to experience. Slick guitar tones, are enchanting as they intertwine through each and every song on the record.
One of my favorite pieces on the record is the hypnotizing tracks, “Sunrise,” which brings a classic rock element to the table, with an updated twist. The smooth sound of the guitar brings to life a jam-band feel with a Rock n’ Roll edge. Mezilis accomplishes sounds of nostalgia and brilliance within each song.
The title track “Comedown,” is hazy and dreamy as it sets a subtle tone for the album of classic guitar work with a modern sound. Mezilis guitar work and instrumentation are really brought to life with each and every song, and the title track sets up a lovely foundation of work, and what we can expect on the album.
You do not even have to be a fan of instrumental guitar work to enjoy this record, as even though there are no words, it speaks for itself. And it speaks loudly.
