Craig Lawrence is a great match for The Delancey. Dressed in a leather jacket pulled over a graphic tee and skinny jeans, Craig oozed that downtown vibe. He sang a set last Tuesday evening that was just getting into a real rock groove when it ended. The Delancey, filled with a larger crowd than I have seen lately, watched Mr. Lawrence and many stayed for the 2nd act. The ideal summer day had the rooftop crowded while others took solace with the live entertainment in the lower level, dark and red venue.
Defining a more courteous, passionate, pop-rock artist, Craig Lawrence will introduce the New York City (and beyond) scene to his music with the release of his debut album Shake the World, due out soon. Mr. Lawrence’s overall sound has a tough outer layer, but is filled with softer tones; just like his image. The band closed out the evening with his song “Stay with Me.” Sharing the stage with four other band members, Mr. Lawrence played guitar, as well as singing lead, and powerfully harmonized with the tambourine/ background vocalist on a few songs including the lighter, dreamy/pop “Let it Show.” The quick 6-song set-list was enough to wet the audiences’ appetite for more romancing and rocking by Mr. Lawrence for song after song to come.
