I don’t get that many press releases anymore, so I shouldn’t be such a crab, right?
And it doesn’t matter, anyhow.
Still. This one needs sharing. I happen to like the publicist who sent this out, and so I’ve removed the firm’s name. And I don’t guess this is an odious thing so much as it is simply sad.
So…the two guys who DIDN’T write the Creedence hits, they’ve gotta make a living, too. And this is how. By augmenting the group and hiring a new lead singer and carrying on under a name that trademark law allows them to use.
I can’t think of anything sadder to do nor to contemplate as a creative person (though not, clearly, a musician).
God knows what went on within the band. From my experience on the sidelines, there’s little more divisive in rock ‘n’ roll than discovering that songwriting royalties make some members a whole lot richer than others. Not to mention the egos that come (and go) with success on the scale CCR once enjoyed. So let’s stipulate that it got ugly, one way or another. Lord knows John Fogerty held whatever grudge he held for decades, wouldn’t even play the songs he wrote.
That was a long time ago, and the guys need to make a living. (Maybe they’ve been doing this all along and I’ve not noticed before.) I just…I wish it didn’t come to this.

FAN FAVORITES AND ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAMERS CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVISITED ANNOUNCE 2010 TOURING SEASON DATES
Creedence Clearwater Revival founding members and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Stu Cook and Doug “Cosmo” Clifford have announced their 2010 North American tour dates with their band Creedence Clearwater Revisited. The two former members of the legendary group Creedence Clearwater Revival launched the Creedence Clearwater Revisited project to once again perform live CCR hits – the touchstones of a generation. The group’s performances are more than a rock concert, they are a celebration. Creedence Clearwater Revisited concerts have audiences singing, shouting and stomping along to every note of every song.
Creedence Clearwater Revisited also includes powerhouse lead singer/rhythm guitar player John Tristao, lead guitarist Tal Morris and multi‑instrumentalist/vocalist Steve Gunner. Included in this year’s touring season are stops at both the Los Angeles and Ventura County Fairs, Buffalo Chip Campgrounds in Sturgis, SD, River Roots Live in Davenport, IA, Harrah’s Atlantic City and Humphrey’s by the Bay in San Diego, CA.
Hollywood Reporter critic John Lappen described a Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert as “… an amazing list of hit after hit that was done serious justice by the players involved. The cheering crowd had big smiles and whoops of joy at hearing live some of the best American rock ever written and recorded.”
