Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week Americanafest Edition: Humming House and Paper Bird
With the Americana Music Festival and Conference just around the corner (or already in full swing, depending on when you read this column), it’s a good time to be a fan of roots music. Being focused as it is primarily on independent artists, it’s no surprise that numerous Americanafest bands turn to crowdfunding campaigns to raise money for their new albums. Many years, at least one panel on the Conference side of Americanafest is dedicated to successful crowdfunding. So this week’s pair of campaigns features one past Americanafest performer and one present one.
Humming House- Untitled New LP
While not playing the Americana Music Festival in 2016, Humming House is a frequent visitor to the festival, their last stop being just last year. Their rich sound and vocally layered crowd inclusive performances make for a fun show that has to be seen to truly be understood. The new album, which is expected to be released in early 2017, is being recorded in Nashville. In addition to the various rewards that will be listed below, Humming House also promises regular updates from the studio for backers at all levels, including a five part documentary about the recording process. Backer rewards include a limited edition signed colored vinyl of the album, a signed guitar pick, a disposable camera full of photos from the road, and one of Humming House’s retired merch suitcases, with a signed CD and shirt inside.
Those wanting to check out Colorado six-piece outfit Paper Bird won’t have long to wait if they’re going to the Americana Music Festival. The band is playing an official Americana Showcase on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10:00 at The High Watt. The self-titled album finds the band forging a new direction, with Carleigh Akins replacing Esme Patterson and the entire group reconfiguring from a primarily acoustic sound to a fully plugged in one. They are also working with rock and roll legend John Oates as a co-producer and collaborator. Backer rewards include a signed setlist, a disposable camera with photos from the road, and handwritten lyrics sheet.
