Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week: Anna & Elizabeth and Rod Picott
As summer winds on, the number of new crowdfunding campaigns continues to be down (among roots musicians anyway. Summer seems to be peak crowdfunding season for heavy metal acts). But there are always a few new campaigns worth talking about. This week, I’ve got a new release by a young duo on the rise and a double album by an Americanafest veteran.
Anna & Elizabeth- Untitled New Album
This one comes via recommendation from my ND colleague Amos Perrine. He tagged them as an act I should keep my eye on so I looked them up. For their as yet untitled new album, Anna and Elizabeth explore the traditional folk songs of their respective homes, Virginia and Vermont. While that’s hardly a novel concept, the attention to detail by the duo is. Not content to just find old songs and cover them, they immersed themselves, finding old singers who still remembered, interviewing the descendants of original artists, and listened to the songs in the houses and sheds where they were originally recorded. In the world of musician as historian, it’s a level of attention to detail that isn’t typical. Backer rewards include the new album in digital, CD, and vinyl formats, a song development sketch sheet, and a private voice lesson via Skype.
Rod Picott- Out Past the Wires
Anyone who is an Americana Music Festival regular likely already knows Rod Picott. The Nashville by way of New England resident has been a frequent guest at the festival and a frequent collaborator with a number of fellow AMA regulars. Now Picott is readying his most ambitious project yet, a double album titled Out Past the Wires. The double-album’s 22 songs promise a mix of rockers and gentle ballads. To help him, Picott has enlisted a strong cast of players, including producer Neilson Hubbard, guitar master Will Kimbrough, bassist Lex Price, drummer Evan Hutchings, and guitarist Kris Donegan. Backer rewards include signed copies of the album in all its various formats, an additional album containing ten outtakes that didn’t make the CD, and a chance to spend a weekend a songwriting weekend with Picott.
