Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week: Lukas Nelson and Jolie Holland & Samantha Parton

As I’ve written in past columns, summer is prime touring season and the major crowdfunding sites slow down accordingly as artists hit the road rather than the studio. This has led me to feature a lot of collections and re-releases in this space in the last month or so. But there are still a few acts raising funds for or releasing pre-orders of their new music. So this week I bookmarked the classic vinyl reissues for a future column and decided to focus on a pair of outstanding new music offering.

Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real- S/T

It’s been a good couple of years for Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real. Following high profile gigs working and touring with Neil Young on his acclaimed The Monsanto Years and working with Lukas’ dad Willie Nelson on a forthcoming album, the band has taken to the road, where I recently caught them at a packed set at Bonnaroo. Now Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real are readying a self-titled album to be released on Aug. 25. Produced by John Alagia, who has worked with the likes of Dave Matthews and John Mayer, the album was recorded at Los Angeles’ Village Studios. Anyone who pre-orders the album will get an immediate download of three of the twelve tracks. Other backer rewards include signed copies of the album on CD and vinyl, a signed hand-written lyric sheet, a signed drumhead, and a Skype songwriting class with Nelson.

Jolie Holland and Samantha Parton- Wildflower Blues

Anyone who has spent much time in the Americana world probably already knows The Be Good Tanyas. Sidelined from touring after a 2013 car accident, member Samantha Parton took back to the road in 2016 with another founding member of the band Jolie Holland. Now the pair are raising funds for their forthcoming debut album as a duo, Wildflower Blues. The demand for the album is obvious as the pair hit their funding goal quickly, but there’s still plenty of time to pre-order and snag some of the exclusive backer rewards. These include a signed vinyl test printing, a postcard and signed setlist from a tour stop, a limited edition vinyl pressing of The Be Good Tanyas album Blue Horse, and a chance to hear the pair cover a song of your choice.
