Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week: Stills & Collins, reissues by Eagles and Stax
Summer is as close to a season of “downtime” as there is in the crowdfunding world. Most artists are on tour taking advantage of the summer market and not in the studio. Labels fill this gap by making summer the unofficial re-issue season. In this week’s edition of Crowdfunding Campaigns of the Week, I have two classic re-issues from one of the biggest bands in the world and one of roots music’s most influential labels. But to show that not everyone is taking the summer off, I have an exciting new joint project from two of folk rock’s titans.
Stephen Stills and Judy Collins have a long history. They met in 1967 and their two year romance resulted in one of Crosby, Stills, & Nash’s most recognizable hits “Suite Judy Blue Eyes.” Of course, since the end of their romance, both has gone on to Hall of Fame worthy careers (Stills is in twice and Collins regularly pops up on the list of “biggest snubs”). Interestingly, considering their close relationship and rise to stardom at the same time, Stills & Collins have never shared a stage together. That will change this summer as the two hit the road together in support of their new collaborative album. Pre-order rewards include a signed copy of the album, an autographed poster, and Stills & Collins clothing.
The Eagles- Their Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2
There aren’t many bands as polarizing as The Eagles. There’s plenty of hate for the band in fan circles, but the numbers don’t lie toward their popularity. Their Greatest Hits ’71-75 is one of the two best selling albums of all time. Now, as the band prepares to play a pair of shows with country legend Vince Gill filling in for the late Glenn Frey, they’re releasing their two greatest hits album as a bundle. There aren’t any special backer rewards for this one, but the album is available on both CD and LP for those vinyl revivalists.
Stax Records- 60th Anniversary Vinyl Reissues
With the possible exception of Sun, it’s hard to imagine a record label more influential to Americana music than Stax. Home to some of the biggest names in blues and soul in history, Stax is celebrating their 60th year by partnering with Rhino to reissue ten of their classic albums on vinyl. Albums slated for reissue include those by Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave, Albert King, and of course, the Stax house band Booker T & the MGs. The albums are offered individually or in 4 album bundles.
