Didmarton Bluegrass Festival 2010- Line-up announced & tickets on sale
It may be a little far for many No Depression members, however if you are looking for an excuse to visit the UK please check out England’s premier Bluegrass event which is set in the beautiful Cotswolds; close to both the cities of Bath and Bristol which has an international airport.
Now in its 22nd year, Didmarton Bluegrass Festival, held annually at the Kemble Airfield site, Glos, is considered by many to be Britain’s premier bluegrass and acoustic music festival. Attracting the top names from the UK and international bluegrass scenes, this year the packed festival bill will be headed by the multi Grammy award-winning Peter Rowan (plus his full Bluegrass Band) and the dynamic, Nashville-revered Claire Lynch Band-who have collectively won more IBMA player of the year awards than I can count.
Taking place between 2-5 September 2010, the festival also ensures a diverse and quality approach, offering a range of musical styles that further embrace blues, jazz, folk and everything acoustically in-between. Providing an unrivalled atmosphere and the best beer prices on the festival circuit, Didmarton Bluegrass Festival 2010 will be biggest and best yet; packing in around 35 artists, during nine scheduled concerts along with instrument and dance workshops, excellent camping, showers, great food, bonfires, banjos and a biker run bar that never seems to close!
The 2010 event will be kicking off on Thursday 2 September with a special one-off, separately charged concert by one of the finest acoustic-roots groups in the country. Folk superstars Show of Hands will headline the main stage in a stomping event that will secure Didmarton as the true music-lovers festival. Camping will also be available for this concert.
Usual festival play will then resume on Friday 3 September with an impressive bluegrass programme to match our distinguished guests from the USA. The list of acclaimed artists include:
The Scoville Units
Jack Lawrence and Richard Plank
Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys
Monroe’s Revenge
A Band Like Alice
Jock Tildesley and Vera Van Heeringenn
Bill Smarme and The Bizness
New Essex Bluegrass Band
Fastest to Canada & many many more….
The festival will have all the usual Didmarton attractions; concerts, dance displays, instrumental seminars, the tuition tent, a wide range of traders and quality catering all contributing to the biggest programme of the 2010 Bluegrass festival season.
Our hosts the OGRI MCC are totally committed to helping us run a successful event and will continue to serve drinks at rock bottom prices for extended hours during the festival. And we can not only look forward the infamously raucous nightly entertainment around the now traditional midnight bonfire, but also separate male and female shower blocks (was that a boo I heard from a male member of the audience)! Please note that all the site facilities will be operational from Wednesday afternoon until Monday morning. The bar will be open from Thursday through to Sunday night.
Tickets are now on sale on our website www.didmarton-bluegrass.co.uk – we recommend you purchase these early to benefit from the advance booking discount.
