Driving N Cryin were a band that I discovered via top 40 radio… back in 1990 or so. They had a couple of hit tunes off and album that did well and brought in a bunch of new fans.. They were a different kind of band, they rocked for sure but they also had a folk edge and a hint of country, blues and even soul. They worshiped at the feet of Dylan, The Stones, REM (who were their peers), The MC5 and The Ramones. They had that moment, between hair bands and Seattle bands, and they should have landed on the same side of the fence as their peers… they should have thought of along side the Screaming Trees and The Meat Puppets.. but it didn’t happen…
Things changed and by the mid-90s they were gone from the rock landscape… dropped by two labels… Singer Kevn Kinney moved on to solo records and rolling out DNC for any party that would pay. There were a few albums along the way, solid records but nothing that was reaching beyond the fan’s that had stuck with him.
