The ninth issue of the Festival at the Sea in Norderstedt, Germany took place on weekend June 6th 2015. The acts were The Wynntown Marshals, Micky And The Motorcars, and Josh Smith & His Band. While the gigs organized by the venue manager usually take place in the small MusicStar, attended by 50 to 100 visitors, at this festival there was a crowd of 1000+. What both kind of gigs have in common is visitors don‘t have to pay for tickets. There’s a donation pig going around to make sure the musicians will be paid.
The festival began with The Wynntown Marshals from Scotland. They have their roots in country-rock and can be best described as similar to The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers. It was their fifth gig in Norderstedt.
After The Wynntown Marshals came Micky & The Motorcars from Austin/Texas. They introduced their new cd Heart From Above. Mickey & The Motorcars, who have a solid fanbase in Germany are also a band who played a couple of times in Norderstedt before. The then enthusiastic crowd couldn’t stop to feel like to dance. Their fantastic gig finished with a version of Stay With Me, original by The Faces.
The festival closed with one of he best guitarist in the world, Josh Smith. Josh and his band played a fine gig with some wonderful blues licks.
Both the visitors and the venue manager are sure, this festival has it’s place in the years to come.
