Bar None has always been one of my favorite indie labels–they don’t put out much, but what they do release tends to be pretty good quality. I first heard Freedy Johnston on a Bar None CD sampler, for example.

The Hotel Lights feature former Ben Folds Five member Darren Jesse, while Greg Camp was in Smashmouth, so there are some recognizable names involved here. The main reason for me to get this was the Luka Bloom track, a beautiful tune that’s typical of his poppy acoustic ballad style. You’ll also find plenty to like in the whispery indie pop of Shannon McArdle and the more uptempo track from Oppenheimer.
