Gregory Dwane – ‘This Ain’t a Drinking Song’

Gregory Dwane is set to release his second body of solo material, titled XX. Following his successful eponymous debut LP in 2021, XX is coincidentally set to be released the same month that Dwane will celebrate 20 years of sobriety — making the choice of title an easy one for the New York-based singer-songwriter and serving as a commemoration of this personal milestone.
Thematically, Dwane’s songs reflect a man in search of balance and understanding. With lyrics that don’t so much take a bold stance as they acknowledge life’s tough lessons and joyful experiences, the record finds the songwriter laying bare his own past wounds and traumas after two decades of sobriety helped him find more solid footing.
Dwane’s 2021 self-titled debut established him as the alt-country songwriter we all need right about now, when we’re not sure whether to laugh or cry, turn off the news and drown our sorrows, or go high-five a stranger. XX sees him delving even deeper into facing and overcoming the struggles of addiction and serves as a rallying cry for those currently dealing with issues of their own — a powerful reminder that they’re not alone, wherever they may be on their journey.
