Bay Area rock legends The Mother Hips cover Buffy Sainte-Marie’s 1964 song “Codine” in this animated video by Josh Clark (Todd Snider, Band of Heathens, and a Ronnie Milsap & Dolly Parton Duet, “Smoky Mountain Rain,” among others). The video features likenesses of the band members and explores our modern “addiction” to cell phones and computers as we follow Tim Bluhm wandering the woods and mountains, encountering nature in all its raw, untamed glory. There’s even an animated “performance” by the band.
The track appears on their new Blue Rose album, When We Disappear, a “masterful” (Mojo ****) album that cements the band’s rep as the purveyors of the classic California rock sound, from the Beach Boys to cosmic country to psychedelic rock.
