Honeyhoney’s Benjamin Jaffe Premieres Solo Single “Blooming”
We’re big fans of honeyhoney at ND, so it’s no surprise that we’re also stoked on the solo tunes of the duo’s Benjamin Jaffe. In early 2018, Jaffe will release his debut collection of solo material, titled Oh, Wild Ocean of Love.
The new album finds Jaffe venturing outside of the rootsy Americana he and Suzanne Santo explore in honeyhoney, with Jaffe’s myriad influences — spanning everything from indie rock to Motown balladry — coalescing for an album with a little something for everyone. Ahead of the album’s release, Jaffe has shared “Blooming,” a new song that shows off his penchant for unorthodox arrangements as well as his thoughtful lyricism.
“I’ve realized after rehearing this with my band that I need to write songs that are easier to play so we can spend more time drinking beer and playing Petty covers,” Jaffe says. “Instead it’s like that scene in Hidden Figures when everyone is staring at the chalkboard like, ‘Wuh?’ Regardless, I’m proud of the arrangement Howard Feibusch and I cooked up. It seems like we were going for a ‘Radiohead covers Paul Simon’s Graceland vibe.”
Oh, Wild Ocean of Love does not have an official release date yet. Listen to “Blooming” below.
