I Can’t Wait To Hear…
The green leaves of the maple trees are turning red and that means that summer is ending and the new crop of back-to-school and end-of-the-year albums will be coming out in the weeks ahead. A lot of them have been discussed here and elsewhere (Dylans Christmas album & Rosanne Cash’s “The Gift” for example) but I’ve found others that I’m very interested in;
Norah Jones (11/17) – According to Rolling Stone, there’s not a heckuva lot of piano on this album. Norah collaborates with Ryan Adams and Will Sheff on cuts that they say is a big departure for her. I’m hoping that this album will put her back on my iPod. She’s such a wonderful talent.
Ben Gibbard & Jay Farrar (10/20) – This sounds like a great pairing. I can’t picture Farrar singing DCFC songs any more than I could picture Gibbard singing Son Volt. I can’t wait to hear what they pull from this blender. The album is a soundtrack to a movie about Jack Kerouac. More info here…

Frank Sinatra – New York (box set) (11/3) – CD/DVD combo of unreleased performances from NYC. Frank is my guilty pleasure. I’m reminded of the only time I had tickets to see him live. It was at Caesar’s in Atlantic City around 1992. I was in my chair as the house lights came down and the P.A. announcer said “Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Frank Sinatra…..JUNIOR”! It turns out Ol’ Blue Eyes called in sick at the last minute and had his son show up in his place. We were offered and accepted a refund for our tickets.
Any other upcoming albums we should know about?
