Important Updates About The Next Chapter of No Depression

Dear No Depression readers,
We have some important updates to share with you about the next chapter of No Depression that will go into effect next week. And while some of these changes were hard to make, we are excited and hopeful about our future and direction.
After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire the print journal. Our current Spring 2025 issue will be our final print edition. All print journals will remain available at store.nodepression.com while supplies last.
We know how much the print journal has meant to so many of you — a tangible, artful celebration of roots music and the artists and professionals behind it. It has meant the world to us, too. But the rising costs of production and shipping have made it increasingly unsustainable. To our current journal subscribers, please look for an email landing in your inbox shortly with more information related to your specific account.
While we honor what the print journal has represented, we’re excited to continue publishing both long and short form roots stories on our website and to introduce No Depression memberships beginning next week. As a nonprofit, independent publication, we hope that you will continue to support No Depression by becoming a member. As one of the only nonprofit, independent publications dedicated to covering roots, we understand the importance of our mission and we believe this evolution positions us in the best possible way to sustain ourselves, but we do need your continued support.
By becoming a member, you will receive access to all the articles we publish on No Depression’s new website (going live next week), gain the ability to post comments directly under any of our stories and have on-site discussions with fellow members, along with other benefits at varying membership levels like access to a full digital archive of all past No Depression magazine and journal issues dating from our inception in 1995 through today (ETA Fall 2025), access to a No Depression invite-only Discord community, online store discounts, and more. Memberships will begin at just $8/month or save by paying annually, beginning at $36/year. We will provide you with another update next week when the new website is live.
To further signify our nonprofit status, we are also changing our website domain to nodepression.org, which we believe will further reiterate that we’re a mission-driven organization serving the roots community with quality journalism. You will still be able to access our site via nodepression.com.
Another initiative that No Depression and our publisher, FreshGrass Foundation, are excited to announce is inclusion in the soon to be announced FreshGrass Institute. No Depression will curate and host writing and journalism Fellowships at FreshGrass’ North Adams, MA campus — offering emerging voices the time, space, and support to create new work. Stay tuned for more details on this initiative.
As a nonprofit, independent publication, we hope that No Depression can rely on your continued support by becoming a member. Please join us in our evolution as we continue to cover the music and artists we all deeply love.
Sincerely,
The No Depression team
