SONiA and disappear fear’s bio: http://www.soniadf.com/nSite_09/index.html
“There is only one SONiA and disappear fear … SONiA is a singer-songwriter, an activist, an artist. She writes in the styles of folk, blues, rock and country, of course that depends on what country; she sings in Spanish, Hebrew and Arabic as well as her native American English. SONiA is known as a protest singer though her songs are mostly about love and understanding. Her lyrics and melodies reflect her simple truth – when you disappear fear between people what you have is LOVE. Her songs are strong but not angry.
The world is ready to disappear fear – a world that is not scared of itself and who it loves, a world that is ending hunger in the many forms that hunger exists, a world that is not scared of itself and who it loves. So tomorrow, as the first rays of dawn reach like swords of light into your eyes… begin the day, like a tango with your soul, in Love with Life because you are. sonia rutstein 10/88
SONiA and disappear fear have gained a devoted fan base in 10 countries around the world -singing solo as a troubadour or with her 3 to 7 piece band backing her up. They have sold over 500,000 albums and continue to gain new fans every year as they perform at venues, festivals and theatres. Their powerful honesty touches the hearts and minds of people of many social and ethnic backgrounds, underpinned as they are by the belief that people are people and love is love. This is the essence of the disappear fear ideology. The disappear fear sound is a culmination of rhymes and rhythms from America and across the seas.
disappear fear’s latest release is “Get Your Phil”, a new CD of ten songs written by the late Phil Ochs. “Get Your Phil”: release date July 4th 2011. This CD is unique because it presents the harmonizing vocals of sisters SONiA (Rutstein) and CiNDY (Rutstein) Frank that have not been featured since the 1996 Seed in the Sahara CD on Philo-Rounder Records.
“Get Your Phil” (the songs of Phil Ochs) is 100 per cent made in America Folk Music. Behind the harmonies, most of the instrumentation is played by SONiA on acoustic guitar, grand piano and harmonica in real time. “We think a new anti-war album released on the USA’s Independence Day is a cool idea and we hope that Phil would be proud ” says CiNDY.
SONiA has been a featured performer on many of Sonny Ochs’ (sister of) Phil Tribute Concerts throughout her career. Similarly disappear fear has recorded two of Ochs’ songs on earlier releases, “Is There Anybody Here” and “No More Songs”. “Get Your Phil” was engineered and produced by Grammy nominee John Jacob (Maria Muldaur, Bonnie Rait) at his studio in San Jose, California.
“I was introduced to Phil’s music when I was in High School, his songs got me through some hard times. I dedicated my first album to him and I aspire to contribute to the world like he did -truthfully,” says SONiA.
