From the Spanish moss draped bends of Bayou Chicot Louisiana we happily discover the fine talent of James Dupre. His home Youtube videos caught on like wildfire and eventually came to the attention of Jerry Douglas who helmed the desk for James’ first recording “Its all Happening”.
James began posting clips a few years back and the response was impressive. Unlike the horror unleashed on us by Justin Bieber, this YT star brings serious talent to the world. I’ll admit to being somewhat skeptical at first. Who wouldn’t when the vidclip starts with some skinny young kid turning on the webcam in his bedroom and introducing his cover of a Montgomery Gentry song. But wait a minute, the voice! Rich, thick and reminiscent of mainstream country stars like Randy Travis, James voice seems almost too smooth. But his phrasing and delivery wipe away all doubts. Its a voice to make you stop in your tracks and listen.
Perhaps the most convincing clip is his take on the Allman’s classic “Sweet Melissa”
