Blues Foundation hall of famer Jay “Hootie” McShann died December 7 in Kansas City, Missouri. McShann was jazz and blues pianist credited with much of the mid-century Kansas City sound; his band provided the launching pad for saxophonist Charlie Parker. He was 89.
